Worcester CORI Checks and Copy Fees

A CORI check gives you a summary of someone's criminal record across all Massachusetts courts. It is not limited to Worcester. The state runs iCORI at icori.chs.state.ma.us for $25 per search. You need the person's full name and date of birth to run a check. Results come back fast and include charges, dispositions, and case outcomes.

Court copy fees in Worcester follow the statewide schedule. Plain copies cost $0.05 per page. Certified copies are $2.50 per page. A certificate of disposition runs $20. Most people only need a few key pages from a case file, not the whole thing. Ask the clerk which documents you actually need before ordering a stack of copies. Cash and checks are accepted. Some clerks now take cards too.

If you cannot afford the fees, you can file an Affidavit of Indigency. The court reviews it and may waive the cost. This applies to both copy fees and filing fees.

Note: Friday hours may be shorter at some offices in the building, so call ahead if you plan a late-week visit.

Sealing Criminal Records in Worcester

You can petition to seal a criminal record in Worcester after a waiting period. Misdemeanor records can be sealed 3 years after the case closes. Felony records require a 7-year wait. File the petition at the court where the case was heard. In Worcester, that means either the District Court or Superior Court at 225 Main Street.

Sealed records drop off standard CORI checks. Employers and landlords will not see them. Some jobs still require full disclosure, like work in law enforcement or with children. The clerk's office has the forms you need. There is no fee to file a sealing petition. A judge reviews the request and makes a decision based on the type of crime and what you have done since the case ended. If the petition is approved, the record is sealed from public view.
